    Part A

Tommy and Lizzy are in Ray’s attic. They’re helping him clear out the attic because his parents are at work and he wants to turn the attic into his game room. Everything is dusty and full of boxes.

“Hey, take a look at those old baby clothes! I bet they belonged to Ray,” Tommy said with a laugh. He picked up a bundle of rompers and waved it in front of Ray’s face. Ray went red and snatched the clothes from his hand.

“Stop it! You’re here to help, not to embarrass me in front of Lizzy,” he whispered to his best friend.

“Wow, there’s so much stuff here. It will take all day to get through it,” Lizzy said with a sigh. She was looking into a large cardboard box. “What’s this?” she asked. Inside the box, beneath a layer of Christmas decoration, there was another box: a small, wooden one with a metal lock.

“Boys, look, what I found. It looks like a treasure chest! But where’s the key?”

    Tommy and Ray came closer.

“I’ve never seen this before,” Ray said, surprised.

“I can’t open it,” Lizzy said, “the lock is too strong. Have you got a screwdriver somewhere?”

Ray nodded and quickly went down the stairs to get one.

“I wonder what’s inside,” Tommy said and looked at Lizzy.
