Story: The mud race. Read the story and answer the questions.

  • Part A
Tommy, Ray and Lizzy are having their lunch break. They’re sitting in the cafeteria and eating pasta salad and egg sandwiches.
“Hey guys,” Ray said, “Have you seen these new posters on the walls? ‘Mud Race This Sunday.’ They’re everywhere. How about taking part?”
“What’s a mud race?”, Tommy asked and took a bite of his egg sandwich. “Ugh, this is awful. I hope I won’t get another stomachache from the cafeteria food. Last week I had to take a pill after I ate too much tuna sandwich.”
“Well,” Ray answered, “As the name already says: A mud race is a kind of running competition in which you run through mud. You get really wet and dirty and usually it’s for a good cause. For charity. You pay an entry fee, about 5 pounds, and all the money goes to the local children’s hospital. Last year they raised more than 5,000 pounds!”
“That sounds great,” Lizzy says. “I’ve never run in a mud race before. It will be fun! And Tommy, maybe you shouldn’t eat more than two sandwiches – no wonder you get a stomachache every time! Have you ever thought about that?”
“Ok, then, let’s take part!” Ray says. “Let’s all wear funny costumes too!”
    “Cool!”
