  • Loch Ness is a large lake in the Scottish Highlands. It's about 37 kilometres southwest of the town of Inverness and is named after a nearby river. 'Loch' is the Scottish Gaelic word for 'lake'. Loch Ness is most famous for the claimed sightings of a mythical dinosaur-like monster also known as 'Nessie'. One of the first people to report a 'monster-sighting' in modern times was George Spicer in 1933. He described the moster as 8m long, with a long, narrow neck like a brachiosaurus (a tall dinosaur with a long neck). But already in the 6th century AD somebody wrote that a man was attacked by a 'water beast' in the lake that dragged him underwater. Later, there were even photographs of the 'monster'. But they all turned out to be fake. Many people have been looking for the monster since then, but to this day there is no proof that it ever lived. What do you think?
