Summary: Conditional Sentences
Conditionals sind Bedingungssätze. Mit ihnen drückst du aus, ob du eine Bedingung für realistisch, unrealistisch oder unmöglich hältst.

Conditionals type 0 /if-clauses type 0
Bildung:
Nebensatz/if-clause: simple present
Hauptsatz: simple present

Es handelt sich um eine Tatsache oder zwangsläufige Folge.

Beispiele:
Plants die if they don't get enough water.
If the sun shines on the Grand Canyon, the rocks look red and gold.


Conditionals type I / if-clauses type I
Bildung:
Nebensatz/if-clause: simple present
Hauptsatz: will-future (oder Modalverb + Grundform des Verbs)

Der Sprecher hält die Bedingung für erfüllbar.

Beispiele:
If you look at a world map, you'll see that Canada is a huge country.
If you want to learn a new language, the internet can help you.


Conditionals type II / if-clauses type II
Bildung:
Nebensatz/if-clause: simple past
Hauptsatz: would (could/should) + infinitive

Der Sprecher hält die Bedingung für im Moment unerfüllbar, aber grundsätzlich nicht unmöglich (aber eben unrealistisch).

Beispiele:
If I were rich, I would travel around the world.
If the weather was nicer, I could go outside. (But it's raining).

Conditionals type III / if-clauses type III
Bildung:
Nebensatz/if-clause: past perfect (=had + past participle)
Hauptsatz: would have + past participle (could have/should have + past participle)

Der Sprecher hält die Bedingung für unerfüllbar, da sie in der Vergangenheit liegt..

Beispiele:
If you
had listened to me, you wouldn't have got lost in the city.
If I had known that it was going to be rainy, I would've worn a different outfit.
